CALIGULA'S HORSE

Progressive Metal

Set to perform at the Rockstadt Extreme Festival from 2-6 August, Brisbane-based Caligula's Horse has established itself as a prominent force in the progressive metal scene. Founded in 2011 by Sam Vallen and Jim Grey, the band's captivating sound and storytelling derive from influences like Steely Dan, Coheed and Cambria, Haken, Dream Theater, and Circus Maximus.

The current lineup consists of Jim Grey (lead vocals), Sam Vallen (lead guitar), Dale Prinsse (bass), and Josh Griffin (drums). Their 2015 album Bloom achieved chart success, peaking at number 16 on the Australian Albums ARIA Chart.

Caligula's Horse's discography started with debut album Moments from Ephemeral City (2011) and EP Colossus (2011). They released The Tide, the Thief & River's End (2013) after signing with Welkin Records, followed by Bloom (2015) with Inside Out Music, and In Contact (2017) introducing new members Adrian Goleby (guitar) and Josh Griffin (drums). Their fifth album, Rise Radiant (2020), preceded Goleby's departure in 2021.

Their music fuses progressive rock and metal, with Sam Vallen incorporating Steely Dan's signature "mu" chords. This powerful sound, combined with emotional storytelling, creates a captivating experience.

The band's dedication, growth, and talent have made them a force in the progressive metal scene. With their current lineup, Caligula's Horse continues to evolve and push boundaries. As they gear up for the Rockstadt Extreme Festival, we can't wait to witness their live performance in August and invite fellow progressive metal fans to join us for an unforgettable experience with this exceptional band.
